I Implications of Automated People Movers for Airport Terminal Configurations
نویسنده
چکیده
A ccording to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), 800 million people are expected to board airplanes in 1999. In 1987, the 17 largest airports accounted for more than half of the air passenger enplanement in the United States.’ As airports get larger and more complex, passengers expect more help from curbside to aircraft seat. With extensive hotel, shopping, and recreational complexes spread across thousands of acres, many major airports not only serve cities, but are becoming cities in themselves. Just as in cities, the biggest challenge in large airports is how to move people on the ground. An innovative Automated People Mover (APM) system recently has become a popular way to meet this challenge. With an APM, new airport terminal configurations and existing terminal modifications that were impossible 20 years ago have become regular. Tampa International Airport was the first airport in the United States to incorporate an APM into its terminal design. Year after year, domestic and international travelers responded to the change by voting it as America’s most popular airport facility.

an Optimum Resource Allocation Model for Airport Passenger Terminals (RESEARCH NOTE)
According to the current Airport planning and design practices, for a given demand level there is a corresponding space requirement. While in practice, there are always trade-offs between cost and levels of service, labor and automation, equipment and fixed facilities, and expansion of existing facilities and the addition of new ones. In this research, the airport passenger Terminal Building (P...

This study analyses the concept of cost functions for semi-automated Straddle Carrier (SC), Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG) and automated Rail Mounted Gantry (RMG) container yard operating cranes. It develops a generic cost based model for a pair-wise comparison, analysis and evaluation of economic efficiency and effectiveness of container yard equipment to be used for decision-making by terminal pla...

متن کاملPassenger and Baggage Flow in an Airport Terminal: a Flexible Simulation Model
The lack of a friendly and flexible operational model of landside operations motivated the creation of a new simulation model adaptable to various airport configurations for estimating the time behavior of passenger and baggage flows, the elements’ capacities and the delays in a generic airport terminal. The validation of the model has been conducted by comparison with the results of previous r...

The Simple Landside Aggregate Model (SLAM) is a model for estimating capacity and delays in airport passenger terminals. SLAM is designed to answer “what if” questions about alternative configurations of the various processing and holding facilities in a terminal. It consists of a network of modules, one for each facility of the terminal. These modules are based on a set of quite simple mathema...
